Simple Crochet Headband

Posted on April 4, 2019April 8, 2019 by Jaye

This is the first crochet item I’ve made that was built in the round. I got the pattern from Rescued Paw Designs, because I subscribe to their newsletter. I was looking for an easy pattern I could work up in a day, because I was having one of those days where I needed a win. I happened to have some of this yarn on hand, and I managed to finish it in one night. Not only that, I finished it before the second period of the Bruins game ended.

It really is that easy. If you’re more experienced with crochet, it’s probably even easier.

I made it with Lion Brand’s Wool-Ease Thick and Quick, because I had a bunch of it on hand and easily accessible. I’m linking you to a super-sized skein of it, but what I had was much smaller and that’s okay. As long as you’re using a nice, thick, super-bulky yarn, you’ll be okay.

I’m just going to link you to the pattern, because Rescued Paw Designs writes a good pattern and I don’t know enough about crochet to make up my own riff on it yet. That said, I did read through the comments and you will want to measure your foundation chain before you join the ends and start your rounds. The pattern, as written, will turn out very small for a lot of crotcheters. I am one of them!

I measured my chain and got started, and I wound up with a finished project that fit perfectly. My only regret was not bringing a stitch marker along to mark the beginning of each round. I don’t *think* this affected the final outcome, but I could be mistaken. I know it would have relieved some of my concern about missing my spot, especially since I had one eye on the game the whole time.

For what it’s worth, I tried it again with Lion Brand Touch of Alpaca. I measured poorly, made the whole thing too big, and tied it in knots to boot. But hey, at least I remembered to use a stitch marker!  (Yes, it’s a wine charm. With a mezcal worm. Don’t be picky.)

Anyway, use a good super bulky yarn and you should be fine. Enjoy, and go Bruins. Or Yankees, whichever you happen to be enjoying while you make this.
